Bailly Lapierre Wine Cave on the Nivernais

Posted by on November 21, 2013

On one of the very hottest days on the Nivernais we were lucky to be close to the Bailly Lapierre “Crémant de Bourgogne” Wine Cave – literally in a cave! (Click here to see maps.) We parked our boat on the bank of the canal and hiked up (yes, UP, UP, and more UP) to the cave. When we got to the top we could feel the cool cave air pouring out of the tunnel opening. It was 90+ degrees outside so even though the cave looked dark and mysterious, in we went. And what a great time we had!

Oh such promise of cooling off, and of tasting good wine of course.

What??? Check out this humongous wine cave – and it is so high up in the hill!
