Locks, Bridges & other Beautiful Sites on the Nivernais Canal, France

Posted on September 4, 2013 by Sara Duke
Nivernais Canal, France
Waking up to our first beautiful day on the Nivernais Canal.
French Breakfast
Breakfast anyone?
Rustic bench along the Nivernais Canal
Rustic resting bench along the tow path by the Nivernais.
Bridge on the Nivernais.
Yes, our boat did fit under this bridge. On the canal there is a lot of raising and lowering the umbrellas.
A big lock on the Nivernais Canal.
This was a super huge lock. I think 5-7 more boats could have fit in with us.

It took quite a while for this lock to fill but it’s no bother. Working the locks is a big part of each day. Plus, tossing the line over the bollard lets you practice your roping skills.
Wild poppies and grapes on a corner lot in France.
Nothing special to see here. Just an amazing abandoned lot. Note the wild poppies and wild grapes. But wait, where is the wildly invasive and highly allergenic ragweed like we have back in Minnesota? Not here!
Pretty reflections and small villages along the Nivernais.
Lots of pretty reflections and small villages along the Nivernais.
An appealing town on the Nivernais.
This town was particularly appealing.
Beautiful town and bridge on the Nivernais.
Beautiful town and bridge on the Nivernais.
Garden bridge on the Nivernais.
We cruised under this garden bridge, went just a bit farther and then parked for the night.
